They do bring in a lot of revenue through tourism etc. but we only pay 62p per person which is a drop in the ocean compared to other taxes we pay.

The royal family aren't perfect. I have to stress I am NOT a royalist but I appreciate the fact that we have these figureheads at the moment. Which is why I won't complain about a Royal Wedding. I don't see why the rest of the world have to be subjected to it but there must be some people interested...

Yeah, Ima go with D55 on this..Which is very very rare lol..But watching privileged kids that was just born into it get married and make millions off of it isnt my cup of tea..Totally don't understand the whole tradition/culture aspect from it. It's no different than celeb moms selling their kids baby photos, staging photo ops. This is just one thing thats hitting all of the blogs and what not that has me going "WHY?" ..Most are the comments on other blogs is like "Why is this getting shoved down our throats" but I dunno :S

I know you aren't trying to start anything! You're just trying to put your views across. I honestly thought the same as you not long ago but now I have come to the conclusion that abolishing our monarchy would not only wipe away a hell of a lot of history and culture but also give our government more power. And honestly, if you lived here you would appreciate how scary that prospect is. The British government does now represent the people and the thought of them having more power actually makes me shudder.

It's a ceremonial thing for me. I'm not a royalist by any means and if you had asked me the same question about 5 yrs ago I would have been in favour of abolishing the monarchy. However, now my country that I was once so proud of is in a state of total disarray. The monarchy are one of the only consistent pieces of history that are steadfast at the moment. I don't feel like a second class citizen to them because I appreciate them for just being figureheads. I don't believe in a class system, I don't identify myself as belonging to any one class. I get people's distaste towards the monarchy but it all depends on what perspective you look at it from. If I felt downtrodden by the fact we have an active Royal Family then my sentiments might be different but to me they are figureheads which represent Britain's history and I like that.

Well, because people don't think accepting you're second class citizens to a handful of people who happen to be born more privileged than you is culture or tradition. There is nothing wrong with tradition or culture...if anything, they bond the citizens of a nation, increasing the likelihood of that nation surviving.
