Disney Leads Hollywood Studios By Grossing $1 BILLION at the Box Office

Disney will reach $1 billion in 188 days, beating the studio’s previous record of 210, set in 2010. [THR]

Somewhere, Uncle Scrooge is diving into a big vault of gold coins – and Mickey, Minnie, and Donald are all joining in. Disney officially becomes the first Hollywood studio this year to pass the $1 billion (that’s billion, with a b) in domestic box office gross in 2012, thanks in no small part to the record shattering success of The Avengers and the smash hit it has in Brave.

This is a milestone of sorts for company which has now managed to gross over $1 billion at the North American box office every year for the last seven years and for 16 of the last 19 years. Walt Disney’s frozen head must be smiling wide today!

This achievement is marred by Disney's idiotic decision to produce box-office bombs like Mars Needs Moms and John Carter.
