As expected, the USA basketball team routed the Dominican Republic in their first exhibition game 113-59 last night in Las Vegas. It was an all around team effort with Kevin Durant leading the way (24pts, 10 reb) as the United States team did everything to shut down the Dominicans defensively and used athleticism to their advantage. Coack K didn’t rely heavily on LeBron and Kobe, limiting both of them to under 20 minutes as he tried to experiment with different line ups. Team USA has just received news that forward Blake Griffin would no longer be part of the Olympic team after injuring his knee. Nothing too serious for the US, flown in was rookie Anthony “the brow” Davis and team was still able to dominate early and often. The USA men’s basketball team will continue to train as they hold one more exhibition game on home soil before heading out to Europe next week.
A bigger splash was made earlier this week, after Kobe Bryant made comments regarding this current Olympic team being compared to the Dream Team. Kobe said they could beat the ’92 team, to which Michael Jordan “absolutely laughed” after hearing his comments. Legendary teammates Larry Bird and Magic Johnson also agreed with Jordan, being confident that the Dream Team would dominate. Kobe then reminded everyone that he talked about one game, not a seven game series. Do you think this 2012 team could beat the ’92 Dream Team? What about a seven game series? Ok, I’ll give this ’12 team a game but put me down for the Dream Team winning the series in five games.
