With all the recent brouhaha around the Church of Scientology and the divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the upcoming release from the Weinstein Co., The Master, is generating tons of buzz. The latest trailer shows how a Scientology-like cult begins with the philosophical musings of a charismatic man named Lancaster Dodd (played by Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman) who tries to recruit a beleaguered WWII vet played by Joaquin Phoenix. Amy Adams co-stars as Dodd’s wife. The film is set to release September 14 but will first be shown in previews at the Toronto Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
