“Far fewer high-wattage celebrities are expected to attend this gathering of the Dems than turned up in Denver four years ago for Barack Obama’s initial nomination.”[THR]
Still reeling from the spectacle of Clint Eastwood taking the empty space next to him to task at last week’s “surprise” RNC speech? How could you not be? Well, get off your geriatric horse, libs, because the DNC is set to kick off tonight with a large gathering of celebs, but nowhere near what we saw four years ago in Denver. This basically means no Oprah and no Spielberg . . . and probably no George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Bette Midler, or Barbara Streisand.
Who is turning up? Check out the roster of likely and confirmed celeb guests: Brad Pitt (and Angelina), Susan Sarandon (who’s in every movie this fall), Eva Longoria, Ashley Judd, Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, Russell Simmons, will.i.am, Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren, Kal Penn, Marc Anthony, Elizabeth Banks, Aisha Tyler, Olivia Wilde, Fran Drescher, Zach Braff and Alexis Bledel.
Being as Sarandon is the oldest one of this bunch, we can expect that no one will be making any speeches that could be confused with PSA’s about the perils of aging and dementia a la Eastwood. Too bad Jack Black isn’t gonna be there: I would pay money to watch him in a slow jam with Bill Clinton.
