Final “Twilight” Movie Doesn’t (Repeat: DOESN’T) Break Franchise Box-Office Record
Maybe there is a God, after all? The culmination of months of drum beating, tabloid headlines, and a sex scandal involving its lead pair did little to help Twilight – Breaking Dawn: Part 2 break its own box office records, which took in $141.3 million in North America over the weekend. This was a fang’s length improvement over the $138.1 million that Part 1 took in over the same weekend last year but still short of the $142.8 million that New Moon was able to gross waaaaay back in 2009.
Don’t feel to badly for K. Stew and R. Patz, though. The film’s $340.9 million global opening was the series’ best worldwide take, thanks in large part to a surprisingly strong showing overseas and which propels producing studio Lionsgate past the $1 billion mark at the box office for the first time. The movie was pretty “eh” so we’re crediting Taylor Lautner and his fully robed torso for this one. See what happens when you keep your clothes on?!
