Falcons take down the Saints and what to look for in week 13

11-29After being in so many close games the Atlanta Falcons were finally able to come out and take an early lead against the New Orleans Saints last night. After taking an early 17-0 lead, the Falcons took advantage of 5 interceptions thrown by Drew Brees en route to a 23-13 victory. Are the Falcons the least respected 11-1 team of all time? Even before the teams played last night, the Saints were only a 3.5 point underdog on the road! There are a few angles to this. The first being that the Falcons have been squeaking out wins against teams that they should be beating by two scores or more. Another reason the Falcons are looked over is because they don’t seem to have this same type of success in the postseason, when it really matters. I’m hesitant to trust the Falcon completely but edging out wins is still winning and that has to count for something.

Here are a few things that i’m looking at this weekend: The best game of this weekend will be the Buccaneers visiting the Broncos on Sunday afternoon. Normally Ravens-Steelers takes that title when they’re playing each other but after Big Ben was ruled out of the game, it can’t live up to expectations. The Bucs offense has been so great and Manning is the leading MVP candidate, so expect tons of fireworks in that game. New twist, my worst game of the week (stay away at all times) is the Browns visiting the Raiders. Why is the Cowboys-Eagles game on during prime time? I’ve been a Cowboys fan since I was a child and a part of me doesn’t want to watch this game. Upset pick is the Jaguars keeping it close at Buffalo (-6).

Side note on the NBA: I’m completely against David Stern taking action against the Spurs for what Popovich did. The Spurs coach was looking out for his team, putting their health first. Stern’s job is to run the league, not a team’s locker room.

Andrej Pejic, Jessica White & Others: Belvedere (RED) Party in NYC

Pictured: Anrej Pejic

Every straight man’s worst enemy Andrej Pejic once again put on his hottie suit & not only made unsuspecting, straight men feel guilty for hitting on him, but also planted the evil seed of doubt in their minds about their own sexuality. It’s very sad, but that’s the reality when you’re the world’s most famous androgynous model. I have to admit, if Andrej Pejic had his own reality show, I’d probably tune into a few episodes just to catch those countless daily “GOTCHA!! I’MMA MAN!!” moments as he runs his daily errands & gets hit on by sugar daddies in big cities across the globe. For those of you who want to see more of Andrej, check it here.

Thankfully, Andrej was the only notable androgynous model in attendance at last night’s Belvedere (RED) party held at Bagatelle in New York City. Jessica White was our personal favorite, but you bastards might dig one of the others. Check our favorites below:

Coming to Comedy Central: “Hobbit Week” on “The Colbert Report”

“Colbert has made no secret of his love for the series; he speaks elvish, the language spoken by elves in the book, and visited the New Zealand set of the film during production.”[THR]

Just how big a fan of The Hobbit is Comedy Central host and National Treasure Stephen Colbert? So big, it turns out, that he has dedicated an entire week of his show to the upcoming epic film from Peter Jackson beginning on December 3 when Gandalf himself (Sir Ian McKellan) stops by The Colbert Report to kick things off. Also expected throughout the week are Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis who plays “PRECIOUS!” Gollum, and star Martin freeman who plays Bilbo Baggins.

No word yet on whether Elijah Wood himself will make a surprise appearance on set…though this being Comedy Central, it’s a pretty good bet that Jon Stewart and Al Madrigal will find a way to work themselves into a sketch. Maybe Samantha Bee can wear Liv Tyler’s Elf Princess costume to get things started? Quick, somebody page Aragorn, son of Arathorn!

Universal Soldier: Film Review

Visit the film’s official website!

Another head scratcher here, folks: why would anyone want to hand over their hard earned Daddy Warbucks to watch a middle aged judo champ fake kick butt? Clearly, there’s a market for this sort of thing because they keep making sequels to The Expendables and now Universal Soldier which stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as an evil henchman who delivers blows and bodies like an assembly line does to Twinkies.

It’s the classic macho revenge fantasy: a young, handsome man named John (Scott Adkins) is haunted by the brutal murder of his beloved wife and daughter who were killed in a home invasion by a mercenary named Luc Deveraux (played by Van Damme, and no relation to Blanche of The Golden Girls…though if he were, that would make an infinitely more interesting movie). So John vows to hunt down the big, bad villain and kick his butt . . . until he actually is confronted by the bad guy and suddenly has to rethink everything because it turns out he doesn’t know as much as he thought he did or understood his life with quite the certainty he once believed. What’s worse than a Hollywood revenge fantasy? A pseudo-intellectual Hollywood revenge fantasy. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

This one is as interminable as a kidney stone. You just want it to be over as soon as possible so that you can retreat to more consequential and artistically weighty fare: like The Spongebob Movie.
