Angelina Jolie to Direct Her Second Feature Film
“I read Laura Hillenbrand’s brilliant book, and I was so moved by Louie Zamperini’s heroic story, I immediately began to fight for the opportunity to make this film.”[THR]
Angelina Jolie may not have gotten the kind of accolades she wanted for her debut film as a director, but that hasn’t stopped her from picking up the megaphone again. She is set to direct the film adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s 2010 novel Unbroken which tells the story of Olympic athlete and war veteran Louis Zamperini who spent 47 days on a raft after a plane crash during World War II. He was eventually found by the Japanese and sent to live as in a prisoner of war camp.
Universal and Walden Media are partnering to produce the film, releasing a joint statement that said, “In her life and in her work, Angelina has embraced stories and causes involving great struggle and triumph over tremendous odds and the basic human condition. She has a real ability to illustrate the strength in human spirit which will be essential in telling Lou’s story of survival and great heroism.”
So, the question remains: is anyone out there interested in seeing a second war drama helmed by Angelina Jolie?
