“Hey idiots, it’s a quote from a movie, and it’s Meryl Streep.”[HP]
Relax, Hunger Games fans. This controversy won’t ruin your Lady Beloved of the Slinging Arrows fortunes in showbiz. As for Lindsay Lohan, well, that’s another story.
When Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress at the Golden Globes a few nights ago she declared her pride by noting, “I beat Meryl!” She was, of course, referring to the Greatest Living American Actor (sorry, Daniel Day Lewis, you’re British).
While most viewers still in possession of their faculties understood Lawrence’s comment as praise, a few others (like Lindsay Lohan) thought she meant it as victory over Meryl Streep.
To clarify, Lawrence told David Letterman while on his couch last night that she was quoting The First Wives Club: “It was a quote from First Wives’ Club. Bette Midler was talking about a globe, I can’t believe nobody’s ever done it before. She said, ‘Look what it says: I Beat Meryl.’ It was so perfect, and I said it, and I had no idea Lindsay Lohan was going to take it to the Twitterverse — is that what it’s called? I’m not on Twitter. But Twitter is very upset.”
She then extrapolated on her idolatry of Meryl Streep, saying “One time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep.”
It’s a common fantasy, J.Law. Trust us.View All Photos ›
