Michael Bay: “I’m sorry for ‘Armageddon’. It was terrible.”

“There is something amazing about how Bay can include a name-drop even in the middle of an apology, so that even when he’s recounting what sounds like an awful professional experience, he can remind you that he’s personal friends with James Cameron anyway.”[CinemaBlend]

You might not be accustomed to hear the words “Michael Bay” and “apology” in the same sentence unless they’re separated by the phrase “did not offer an”, but things are sure a-changing for the director of this week’s Pain & Gain. He has offered a formal apology to everyone who saw the critically-eviscerated Armageddon:

“I will apologize for Armageddon, because we had to do the whole movie in 16 weeks. It was a massive undertaking. That was not fair to the movie. I would redo the entire third act if I could. But the studio literally took the movie away from us. It was terrible. My visual effects supervisor had a nervous breakdown, so I had to be in charge of that. I called James Cameron and asked ‘What do you do when you’re doing all the effects yourself?’ But the movie did fine.”

Fine. Apology accepted (hell, we kinda forgot that movie existed, to be honest). But when will he start apologizing for Transformers?

But Ben Affleck was so sexy, so it wasn't a total loss.

The only thing Bay should apologize for is Pearl Harbor. He's shining on the critics because he's promoting his movie.

Armageddon is the Godfather of Michael Bay's movies... if he thinks he should apologize for it, then he should go and just kill himself for Transformers 3
