Lorde: Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lana Del Rey Music is “Irrelevant”

So let’s just all agree that Lorde is hella more talented than any other 16 year old we know (or is she 17?). But it seems like the very quality that makes her a great artist isn’t making her any friends in the music biz: her candidness about her true feelings.
She tells Interview Magazine that she feels isolated from the music of the chart toppers in the music scene, stating, “Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey. They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn’t relate to me — or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, How are we listening to this? It’s completely irrelevant.”
How indeed. Don’t look for Lorde as a judge on American Idol any time soon.
