Excuse our delay in getting these up, but like we always say, it’s better late than never, right?
Everybody who was anybody attended amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala held last Thursday evening (May 19) during the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival. The event was held at the ultra-exclusive Eden Roc hotel in Antibes and raised more than $10 million!
From the looks of the pics, the event was the perfect opportunity for deep-pocketed, highly-networked sugar daddies to pounce on hot pieces of ass—all in the name of helping those suffering from AIDS around the globe.
Here are more details about the auction & the event:
Several items in the live auction were donated in the memory of Dame Elizabeth. A limited-edition Herb Ritts photograph of Dame Elizabeth entitled Elizabeth Taylor, Malibu sold for 150,000 Euros, and a signed and dated lithograph of Andy Warhol’s Liz raised 400,000 Euros.
The highest-selling auction lot of the night was a chance to play tennis with H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco. The royal couple, H.S.H. Prince Albert and his fiancée, Charlene Wittstock, took the stage to help auction off the package. Ms. Wittsock, a former Olympic swimmer, added an impromptu private swimming lesson to the lot, and the couple offered the opportunity to two bidders for 500,000 Euros each, raising a total of 1 million Euros.
Simon de Pury auctioned off a print of Jean Pigozzi’s photo of Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones American Tour Richfield Colliseum, Cleveland, USA, 1981, signed by both the photographer and Mr. Jagger. The iconic photo sold for 300,000 Euros.
Karl Lagerfeld offered the extremely rare opportunity to be a part of an exhibition of his photography work. The package included a custom-fitted couture Chanel jacket, and the chance to sit for a private portrait session with Mr. Lagerfeld, the result of which will be included in his exhibition in Paris. The package sold twice at 180,000, raising a total of 360,000 Euros.
In addition to the auction, a number of rousing performances were also featured at the gala. Milla Jovovich kicked off the evening with a flirtatious rendition of “I Want to Be Loved by You,” and Courtney Love gave an impromptu performance of two songs. Bebel Gilberto also sang “Samba De Bencao” and Boy George closed out the evening with two songs.
Following the Gala, guests made their way to the official amfAR After Party, held at the Eden Roc and presented by L’Oreal Paris. Famed DJs Samantha Ronson, Sebastian Perrin, and Michelangelo L’Acqua provided the music late into the night. The soiree was hosted by L’Oreal ambassadors Patrick Dempsey, Milla Jovovich, Freida Pinto, and Gwen Stefani. Source
