A long list of up & comers were on hand at Variety’s 6th Annual Power of Youth Event held Paramount Studios in Hollywood yesterday afternoon. With the fall premiere season upon us & the 2012 Emmy Awards next week, look for countless more parties over the next couple weeks helping to create buzz & of course, raise money for charity! Designed to celebrate the joy of sharing their millions with the needy, the event gives young stars an opportunity to learn more about philanthropy, while also enjoying entertainment and activities.
Here’s more about this year’s event directly from Variety. We found the final statement somewhat perplexing for obvious reasons:
This year’s event will honor the Jonas brothers, Vanessa Hudgens, “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland, Jordin Sparks, “Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham and Diego Boneta. They join previous honorees including Justin Bieber and Shailene Woodley.
The cast of Cartoon Network’s “Level Up” will host this year’s event, which will feature a musical perf by Graham.
Each honoree has chosen a philanthropic org to spotlight: Change for the Children Foundation (Jonas brothers); the George Lopez Foundation (Hyland); the Water Project (Graham); Make a Wish (Hudgens); Child Help (Sparks) and the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer & Hematology Clinic (Boneta).
Variety publisher Brian Gott says young stars are carefully vetted to make sure they genuinely embody a philanthropic spirit and serve as a role model for the fans that look up to them.
So, they actually vet each attendee to make sure they haven’t done anything in the past that would make them a negative role model for young fans?! Really, Variety?

Photo Credit: Pacific Coast News; Excuse the delay on these, but singer Jordin Sparks performed at the US Open in Queens earlier this week (Monday). Specifically, she performed her song “Celebrate,” which was originally a duo w/ Whitney Houston, as well as the national anthem to help kick off the annual tennis tournament.
