“The First Monday In May” was chosen as the opening film of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, which kicked off yesterday and will run through April 24. As per its Wikipedia entry, “The First Monday in May is a 2016 documentary film about the creation of the 2015 art exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass by curator Andrew Bolton at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.”
As for this year’s festival, we should mention that tix are still available for those interested (see official website). For those of you who like to hear famous directors talk with famous celebs, you might want to attend one of the Tribeca Talks:
Directors Series, which brought Christopher Nolan, George Lucas, Ava DuVernay, and Cary Fukunaga to the Festival last year, is bigger than ever in 2016. Fresh off of directing the record-breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens and producing the sci-fi hit 10 Cloverfield Lane, J.J. Abrams will sit down with the always-unpredictable Chris Rock for a lively conversation; having turned Marvel’s The Avengers into Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster heroes, Joss Whedon will discuss his illustrious career with friend, and Bruce “the Hulk” Banner himself, Mark Ruffalo; Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón will go in-depth on his critically lauded films, including Children of Men and Gravity; the visually singular Baz Luhrmann and cultural critic/filmmaker Nelson George will chat about their new Netflix original series The Get Down, for which George is part of the writing team; multihyphenate Jodie Foster, whose new film, Money Monster (starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts), opens in May, will talk about her storied career with director Julie Taymor; and Fish Tank director Andrea Arnold will do the same. Karolina Kurkova attended the Giuseppe Zanotti store opening in Ibiza, Spain. The supermodel mommy showed-off her stunning sexy long legs and had a slight wardrobe malfunction as she turned and posed for the cameras. Karolina was in Ibiza to attend several fashion events but also found time to relax with son Tobin and husband Archie Drury.
