The ‘Reluctant Fundamentalist‘ premiered last night as part of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival at The ‘Tribeca Performing Arts Center’ in NYC. In attendance were the film’s cast including Kate Hudson, Riz Ahmed & Kiefer Sutherland. It’s the latest film by NY-based director Mira Nair, who’s behind popular titles like “Monsoon Wedding,” “Vanity Fair,” and “The Namesake.” Unfortunately for Mira, the film is getting canned, if judge by various reviews at Rotten Tomatoes & Meta Critic.

Anyway, here’s some plot action:

Changez, a Princeton graduate from Pakistan, succeeds on Wall Street, thriving in his adopted city. But in the wake of September 11, Changez finds his position in his adopted city suddenly overturned and his relationships tested. His involvement with pro-Pakistan demonstrations are called into question as is his connection to a possibly extremist student. After another attack, Changez’s link to the student implicates him indirectly to the group responsible. A thriller unfolds as Changez is forced to choose – a country, a way of life, where he belongs. The Weinstein Company’s 2013 Golden Globe Awards After Party was held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Yes, that’s three Golden Globe after parties in the same hotel. We can confidently report that none of these ladies in this post were nominated for an award but as with other posts, we should be plugging the event, one more time. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted and Jodie Foster was the recipient of the lifetime achievement award; the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Also, Argo won Best Picture – Drama, Les Miserables won Best Picture – Comedy or Musical, Homeland won Best TV Series – Drama, Girls won Best TV Series – Comedy or Musical, and Game Change won Best Mini-Series or TV Movie. The amfAR 3rd Annual Inspiration Gala took place last night at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. As you might recall, amFAR is The Foundation for AIDS Research and last night’s event included a live auction and award presentation to Kevin Huvane; no idea who that is, just reporting the facts. The event was hosted by Chelsea Handler (didn’t make the cut for this post) and included a performance from Katy Perry (ditto to her as with Chelsea). For more info, visit the amFAR website.

Photo Credit: Pacific Coast News; Pictured: Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson & her new film “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” helped to open the 69th Venice Film Festival on Wednesday. The festival will run through September 8 & feature a long list of A-Listers who’ll enjoy the beautiful sights of the classic Italian city. Most cheap-ass Hollywood studios take the far cheaper & more convenient route to fly their stars to Toronto for the city’s annual film festival which happens around the same time, but why hit Toronto when you can splurge on Venice?! For a full list of films premiering over the next week, check here.

As for the festival’s opener, “Reluctant Fundamentalist” brings together Hollywood A-listers like Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber with Bollywood heavyweights Om Puri & Shabana Azmi to tell the politically-charged story of a Pakistani man working on Wall Street. The film is directed by Mira Nair & based on a novel by the same name by Mohsin Hamid. Here’s more info:

A young Pakistani man [Riz Ahmed], graduates from Princeton, and chases corporate success on Wall Street. He finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family’s homeland. Source
