amfAR’s 20th Annual Cinema Against AIDS at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival was the party of the night. Founded by Mathilde Krim and Elizabeth Taylor, celebrities came dressed in their best gowns to walk the red carpet which was chaired by Janet Jackson, who also was also honored at the event for involvement for the past 15 years. All is Lost is the upcoming film by J. C. Chandor who wrote and directed; his previous work was Margin Call. The film stars only Robert Redford and doesn’t have much dialogue as it tells the story of a man lost at sea. Behind the Candelabra is the upcoming HBO film directed by Steven Soderbergh starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. The film is about pianist Liberace (played by Douglas) and the secret affair he had with young Scott Thorson (played by Damon). The premiere took place during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival and will premiere on HBO on May 26th. For those of you looking to get an extra bang for your gift-giving buck, supermodel Petra Nemcova has struck a nice partnership with Clinique, where a portion of sales of various products including perfumes, body wash & creams will go straight to her Happy Hearts Fund, which she started soon after the Indian Ocean Tsunami. The supermodel-turned philanthropist was on hand signing autographs & connecting with fans at a launch event held at a Bloomingdale’s location in NYC (probably midtown). Sucks that we missed the event b/c we’re longtime fans!! DOH!

Petra Nemcova and special guest Carlos Slim hosted her 2012 Happy Hearts Fund Land of Dreams: Mexico Gala at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The event announced the partnership between Petra and Carlo’s foundations that will rebuild schools in Mexico beginning in Veracruz. As you know, the Happy Hearts Fund is the non-profit started by Petra following the tsunami in Thailand years back aimed at rebuilding schools and restoring hope and opportunity in the lives of children after natural disaster.
