NYC 911 Political Blame Gamers

First here’s an excerpt from a WSJ article released today about the 911 Commission’s findings:

During the hearing, a panel of witnesses that included the former city police commissioner Bernard B. Kerik and former fire commissioner Thomas Von Essen, who held those offices on 9/11, responded angrily to the commissioners, accusing them of seeking falsely to assign blame and contending that long-standing rivalry between their departments had had no impact on the rescue effort. -Scott Paltrow, Wall Street Journal, 5/19/2004

See what happens when you start to blame? You make no progress. I think this commission was a waste of time. If you have no life and caught some of the testimonies on national TV, you would be surprised at how our political system works. Actually not only our political system—political systems in general. The commission was useless because it was simply body of politically motivated individuals who were to told to put blame on people—not find solutions. If we spent all the money that went into the commission’s expensive dinners, lunches, and hotel room rentals to figure out what we should do to save lives next time, or possibly provide MORE financial assistance to the families of the people who gave their lives on that day. I do not care who was responsible b/c we already know who was responsible. We also know our current system failed. What we need to do is to suck in our pride and strive for change. *

Zombs, the last thing I want you to feel is that I'm undermining your work. I understand why you, the thousands of other soldiers from all corners of the world, Bush & other leaders are forced into these situations. It's simply built inside us--you, me and others. We will simply have to wait for the one leader who will have the courage and discipline to unite all people through unselfish sacrifice, love & extreme patience.

Everyone knows that if violence is applied with certain amount of pressure for a given period of time, fear will set in & either we or the terrorists will have victory. If we win, terrorism, as we know it, will cease to a very negligible amount and on the other side they win---let's just say, if they win, the world will be no more because will have destroyed it all protecting our way of life.

Do you see an end to it? If you do, please write to your heart’s delight. I follow a lot of sources in many markets and simply don't see an end to the violence. That is the flaw with our system: we only know of only one way to deal w/ problems that threaten our national identity & that's through human sacrifice. Terrorism has increased every year following 9/11---are the flames merely peaking right before we put out the fire or is this just the start of something worse? Who knows, man. That's what I'm saying, there is a lot of uncertaininty w/ our game plan. This is because we do not account for human ideals--- all we know how to do is command young, unsuspecting men to fire & bomb people who we feel are the root of the problem, when in reality we remain clueless of the problem itself.

Moe,

Haven't been over in Iraq. Did assist in the planning for OEF. I can tell you that it took about three weeks between the fall of the Twin Towers and the time the US military struck targets in the Taliban controlled areas of Afghanistan. You are correct in assuming (based on popular media) that the intelligence processes available to predict an attack was poor. However, once the President and his advisors pinpointed the source, a military plan was devised and executed. Many people are unaware that operations are still on-going world-wide. Last month alone, 21 countries participanted in operations against terrorists. Unfortunately what is reported are the terror attacks against the world's citizens. I say citizens becuase terrorists attack non-military targets for world media effect. The soultion to this requires political will to change some of the root causes, military strikes to destroy those radical elements engaged in extreme violence, and a willingness on behalf of people like you and me to have faith that over time the combination will diminish the support for violent submission to a corrupt theocracy.

Have you been over there yet or what? Either way, I hope all is well, man.

Very true. Reaction time is natural human flaw, but it is not Bush who must react, zombs, it is his government. He & his government represent the people. He has millions of people behind him making decisions for him day after day, for god’s sake. Literally departments after departments responsible for national security. All he has to do is appear smart in front of the camera and act like a leader—act like someone in control of the situation. I expect nothing more and nothing less. Plus, I don’t even know if he could have done something even if he wanted to because of the broken down communication networks.

As it has been hammered home, it was and still is nothing more than an intelligence issue. These departments usually have this stuff packed down—they are the ones responsible for reacting w/ amazing precision & ultimately responsible for making our leaders look good.

Just read Moe's comments about the commission. No kidding its political. In regard to Pres Bush's reaction for 5 minutes, imagine how you would react if someone told you your house was burned to the ground. My reaction would be shock at first. Most pyschologists tell us that it the first reaction. Also, are you the kind of person that reacts first thinks later. Seems unfair to assess the President for reacting with shock then gathering info then acting. BTW President Bush took on the Al Queda where they lived within 30 days of the attack. Clinton didn't do that in 8 years.
