A-boo-boo Ga-Ga-rub
Americans have seen the flames of September 11th, followed battles in the mountains of Afghanistan and learned new terms like orange alert and ricin and dirty bomb.” [nice speech writer…great use of imagery, I must admit! Using multiple elements of fear & sadness in order to gain sympathy. Classic]
“Yesterday, an elite Iraqi unit cleared out a weapons cache from a large mosque in Kufa” [Let me guess: the was this unit the CIA?]
“A new team of senior military officers is now assessing every unit in Iraq’s security forces. I’ve asked this team to oversee the training of a force of 260,000 Iraqi soldiers, police and other security personnel. Five Iraqi army battalions are in the field now, with another eight battalions to join them by July 1st. The eventual goal is an Iraqi army of 35,000 soldiers in 27 battalions fully prepared to defend their country.” [Oh great, the creation of another monster from the ground up. Why couldn’t every country be like New Zealand, damn it!]
“Iraq’s new sovereign government will still face enormous security challenges and our forces will be there to help.” [For some reason, I don’t think the “terrorists” are gonna be happy w/ that statement. He does not even hint at any exit plan.]
“And now a growing private economy is taking shape. A new currency has been introduced. Iraq’s governing council approved a new law that opens the country to foreign investment for the first time in decades. Iraq has liberalized its trade policy. And today, an Iraqi observer attends meetings of the World Trade Organization.” [What about mules w/ the bomb on their back walking toward random buildings?]
“To ensure our money is spent wisely and effectively, our new embassy in Iraq will have regional offices in several key cities. These offices will work closely with Iraqis at all levels of government to help make sure projects are completed on time and on budget.” [Once again, don’t think the terrorists will be happy w/ that statement, either. Aren’t all our embassies in old Saddam Palaces? It seems like our main goal is not for a secure Iraq, but to piss off the terrorists even more.]
“We did not seek this war on terror, but this is the world as we find it. We must keep our focus. We must do our duty.” [Please. Our duty is to find answers to questions & solve conflicts with peace in our minds. We cannot want peace while we plan for a war! We must plan for peace in order to get it. There is no use going on an endless killing spree on the backs of poor/middle class kids. Someone should ask him when our duty will end?! When we’ve killed all those terrorist? How will we know we’ve got them all? Just this week, they said they’ll relase 400 people from the Abu Gharib prison that currently has around 3500 people. That’s more than 10% of the people in there who were wrongly captured. Don’t you see, if we don’t know who our enemy how can we possibly fight them?]
“Our terrorist enemies have a vision that guides and explains all their varied acts of murder. They seek to impose Taliban-like rule country by country across the greater Middle East.” [Hilarious. The Middle East is run by greedy kings and semi-democratic governments. These fanatics are few and far between!]
Even until the end of the speech, he didn’t really say anything w/ real substance. It was more like a speech someone would give if they were trying to convince the public to support the war.
Ok, I’m tired of hacking away at the speech. There will another day and another speech!
