SUPER SIZE ME

For all that I live for, after I watched this movie … I will NEVER, or more importantly try really hard not to … eat fast food again. I would have to say that only on the ocassional munchie run or “I need to eat or I’ll yak” kinda situations will be the only reason I eat fast food.

Working a biopharmaceutical company that develops drugs for heart disease, I can see why the sudden interest in developing drugs for type II diabetes or finding the infinite fat blocker so to speak. America is straight OBESE!!! At least I know I have job security. If you haven’t heard, obesity has pretty much passed smoking as the major killer of people these days.

If you haven’t heard of it, its a movie about this guy who eats McDonalds 3 meals a day, everyday for a month. Yeah thats right a month. He starts out as a completely healthy guy. I really recommend this movie. I had a headache through the whole thing, and I think it gave me gas!!! Man … I don’t even feel like eating for the rest of the month. Anyway, its a great movie. If your diet is based on fast food, I recommend you either 1) watch the movie so you know what you are doing to your body or 2) don’t watch the movie and die of a fatty liver.

I really interesting point one of the guys made in the film was … people get heckled for smoking all the time, like “why do you smoke, do you know what you are doing to your body?” but its not ok to heckle an obese person cause its not PC, when in actuality, that obese person is doing the same amount of harm to their body as the smoking person. Hmmmmm. (and yes by the way, I have stopped smoking since january)

One word … GROOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The classic quick fix! Every woman is on some type of diet at my work I think. You name it: Cabbage, liquid only, atkins, south beach diet (whatever that is), etc etc. It lasts for about 2 days and then they binge on the 3rd day as if they haven't eaten in a week, so dieting was possibly the worst idea to begin w/. Like you said, if you genuinely want to do something, you will do it.

I just feel that when you want to quit you will. If you don't want to you won't. You just need a good reason, if yourself is not good enough. I know my own well-being wasn't enough for me. I do ocassionally smoke, just not as much as I used to ... which was a pack every other day. I smoke mostly when I am stressed ... something calming about it all. But, no more packs of cigerettes for me. I have probably smoked maybe three packs of cigerettes since january.

Although, it is true that second hand smoke does effect other people. It still makes you wonder how we let people gorge themselves till they die. Or how people make up excuses for things. There was a girl about the age of 10 in the movie who was very obese, and she stated that Jared (the subway dude) was her hero, but he ate subway sandwhiches twice a day and it just wasn't possible to do that. All things aside, no matter how hard it is to do something, you do it. Especially if it involves your health. I know I am not one to talk, I feel that I am overweight (not obese) for my height and I should do something about it. But I don't make excuses for myself, I am concious of what I am doing. Its just sad everyone is in to the "quick fix". And when it comes down to it, eventually, the majority of america will need a "quick fix" to stay alive.

But my god, did you / or do you guys have crazy withdrawals? That shows a tremendous amount of strenght in terms of self-discipline guys.

My uncle has been trying to quit for the last 20 years. poor guy, man. A lot of people tell him to quit quit, but I can understand how that can become really annoying.

I haven't watched a movie since Lord of the Rings (december). It's one of my longest (american) movieless stretches, but this movie sounds hilarious! haha. I haven't even heard about it, man. I will definitely check it out though. It's gonna be a toss up between this and shrek 2.

Melissa, you stopped smoking?!! Congrats my sistah! So does that mean you will only hit the hookah when the opportunity arises? Smoking once in a while is ok (I know that statement sounds stupid, but hey, I seriously think nothing of it once in a while).

i also quit smoking- good for you! the thing that is different about someone hogging down a burger and the smoker at the next table is the burger won't hurt me, but secondhand smoke is a killer
