Alright, so the challenge has been laid down to me by my friend to come up with the ultimate mix cd of cheesy corny ol’ skool r&b songs. Now, I’m talking about stuff that came out when we were in like middle school…I’m open to suggestions. I’m talking about artists like Troop, Riff, Jasmine Guy, Trey Lorenz, etc…
If you think Shai or Keith Martin is old school, then you’re too young to participate on this list…
It’s like, when you hear the song, you gotta be all like, "damn, i remember i was in 6th grade when that song came out."
So far, the most cheesy song I’ve come up….Jeremy Jordan, "Right Kind of Love" off the Bevery Hills 90210 soundtrack! oh baby!!! i know he ain’t r&b but I remember the video where’s he’s trying to ball with his hired crew of brothas…
Did ya'll ever find the song from comment #7 (I don't want nobody else, nobody but you)???? This is driving me crazy!!!

HELP. I have been trying to find this song sung by a group in 84. The lyrics are as follows: I dont want nobody else / its you I love / Im always thinking of / you know that its true / I need your love.....and you know that I am truly hypnotise, by the sparkle in your eyes.....Im in love all the time / because you are on my mind / and day after day / when the others would come my way / baby its all here / cause mother nature has made this plan for us..............and you're the only one for me, and I dont want nobody else / nobody else / nobody but you.
Dam! I ain’t gonna lie. I am ol’ Skool to the key.
I am currently 29 years old and will be 30 this November.
I remember songs and groups like:
Anquette (I Will Always be There for You)
The Boys (Dial My Heart and lucky Charm)
Guy (I Like; Let’s Chill)
Cameo (Attack me with Your Love; Single Life; Candy)
Stevie Wonder (That Girl; Part-time Lover)
Full Force (Ain’t my type of Hype; So Unfaithful)
Force MDs (Tender Love)
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam (I wonder if I take You Home; All Cried Out)
Surface (Happy; Shower Me with Your Love)
Seduction (True Love; It Takes Two to Make the Thing Go Right)
Tracie Spencer (Tender Kisses; Saving My Love)
Lisa Stansfield (Been Around the World; Let It Out)
Perfect Gentlemen (Oo La La; One More Chance)
The Gap Band (Yearning for Your Love; Outstanding)
Teena Marie (so many of them… Out on a Limb; Square Biz; I Need Your Lovin)
Dam it I could go all day with the number of songs, but I also remember my family and I riding in our orange 1976/77 Monte Carlo. My dad was macking on my mom while I was chillin in the backseat listening to stuff like Prince “Controversyâ€Â, The Manhattans “Shining Starâ€Â, and Morris Day and The Time’s “Cool†etc… blasting through the speakers. I guess that’s why my younger brother was born about 8 years later from my birth in 1984. Smile
The crazy thing is that quite a few of the artist listed above songs have been sampled like crazy.
Even My younger brother is starting to get into Ol’ Skool jams. I caught him with a Teddy Pendergrass CD and James Brown CD as well.
I have quite a collection of Ol’ Skool movies as well as music.
I am currently waiting for my Breakin 1 and 2 DVDs to Come in and The Last Dragon DVD. Smile
I told you fools I was Ol’ Skool.
I remember Head spinning (The Helicopter as it was referred to; This was one of my favorite moves) and back spinning and that was without any equipment. I know… I was crazy as fuck and in a lot of ways, I still am. Smile
I remember having my “Crazy 16†party. It was off the dam chain. The house was jumping, and I mean that literally and figuratively because my parents came in and checked on us just to make sure that there were no cracks in the floor. Smile At least, that’s what they tell everybody. My favorite part of the party was the slow dance. I got to rub and grind on this chick as the DJ, my childhood friend who had lots of music, played Angela Wind bush’s “How Can I Ease the Pain.†You talking about fun wonderful memories.
I had two more parties the next two years until I was 18, but they were nothing compares to my “crazy 16†party.
My folks and I lost almost everything we had due to Hurricane Katrina, but I was able to clean off all of my CDs, and I brought most of my DVDs with me before we left New Orleans. I lost all of my Audio Cassette tapes. Man I had everything from After Seven’s “Can’t Stop†to Class Act Soundtrack to The Ghostbusters’s 2 Soundtrack (the one with Bobby Brown’s song “in Control†on it) to Kid and Play to Beastie Boys to LL Cool J’s “Radio†tape.
We ended up losing all of our 12 inches and 45s vinyl albums because my mom didn’t want to have to clean them all off. I cleaned off all of my CDs, and they work fine. They must be made out of some good, strong material.
WE also lost all of our 8 tracks.
Oh well, I have my dam life, and I can always get those things back if I really want them.
I was also able to save some of my VHS tapes that I had locked up in a huge plastic container. (Example of VHS: House Party 1 2 and 3, Crush Groove, Wild Style, Beat Street, and quite a few others)
Dam it I even Have a CD with Ol’ Skool TV Show theme songs and Commercials.
I am glad I grabbed my new laptop computer before I left. It’s my only source of communication with the outside world in addition to the telephone and the TV/radio.
I Miss AudioGalaxy.com and Kaazaa Lite free downloading days. I could find old Skool rare and hard to find memories.
I think I’ll go enjoy some of them now. Smile
Oh man! Here I go. I’m feelin it now. Helicopter here I come.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Oh maaaaaaan! fuuuuuuuck!

mercedes boy by Pebbles

does ABC (another bad creation) count as R&B;?
you gotta have at least one michael in there...
I have some others that are slowly coming back to me.
Unfortunately, we have a very limited audience, so I'm trying to plug this to some of the people at my work. I got some old skool sistahs at my work who might be able to help w/ this...
