Judges are not bound by plea agreements, they can accept or deny them at their discretion. No matter what deal his lawyers thought they had worked out with the DA, the judge doesn't have to uphold it.
Now, if RP and his lawyers felt the judge was corrupt and/or bungled the decision, they should have appealed his ruling and not fled the country.

I would have been all for locking him away in the '70s or '80s, but he's like 75 now and I really doubt he's the same person he was then. Here's something I don't get: Why *is* it OK for a 16-year-old to have casual sex with a 15-year-old if it isn't OK for a 30-year-old?
