I know a lot of people harsh on Katy, and Im not exactly a fan of her music either, but I at least respect her for one reason. I know she paid her dues, she was working clubs and coffee houses in LA for 2 to 3 years before she got a record contract.

as long as you keep your integrity, and most of the time, as is the case with someone like say Juliana Hatfield, u keep your integrity, you sign for mad paper, get your moment in the sun, the label EXPECTS you to change, you tell them to fuck off, you go from playing for 3500 people to 400 again.
if your SMART you save said money so you can continue to do what you love in the future when you ARE playing for 400 people, you dont have to jockey a fucking register between tours.
