Spanish La Liga: Barca Whoop Santander; Mourinho’s Real Draw 0-0!
David Villa celebrates scoring his first competitive goal for Barca!
I’ve gotta apologise for the lateness of this post. Any of you who read my regular footie posts will know about how frantic Transfer Deadline Day can be, with all of Europe’s top leagues involved in last minute deals before they have to stick with what they have in their quests of glory. Some with better chances than others, obviously.
The Spanish La Liga kicked off in proper fashion this weekend. Let me know if any of you support anyone other than Barcelona or Real Madrid so I can keep those teams posted too. La Liga posts will only be once a week and unlike the EPL, I’ll only be focusing on the big 2 unless anyone here is randomly an Osasuna fan!?
RACING SANTANDER 0-3 BARCELONA
The Champions kicked off their season in style by comprehensively thrashing Racing 3-0. A lot of people had been concerned with Barca’s financial muscle prior to the season kicking off. After signing David Villa from Valencia before the World Cup, they had to sell the likes of Theirry Henry, Rafa Marquez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic & Yaya Toure to afford their ultimately failed coup of Cesc Fabregas. In the end though, Javier Mascherano was signed just after this game, and Adriano also, from Sevilla.
Whichever Barca side hits the field these days is class though, no matter who’s in or out of the squad. Ibra left and Villa filled in. And if Villa’s ever injured, then Pedro’s lurking around on the bench. This is definitely the strongest team on earth, despite the financial powers that be elsewhere. Even Mourinho admitted that his toughest challenge yet in his career was to wrestle the title off of Barca. Tough fights ahead!
World Player of the Year LIONEL MESSI took just 3 minutes to score Barca’s first, latching onto Iniesta’s amazingly precise throughball to chip the goalie as quick as a flash.
If the first was clever, the second was a thing of beauty from the master technician himself - World Cup final goalscorer ANDRES INIESTA. After the goalie could only parry a cross that he punched out, Iniesta was lurking around in the right place in the right time to chip in an exquisite first time finish past the goalie who just couldn’t react as quick as this genius. Mental goal.
DAVID VILLA has to be the best predator around and he got in on the act in the second half with a gem of header following great wing-back play by Dani Alves. Superb. Just World Class. These guys are world beaters again whoever they let in or out. As long as that man PEP GUARDIOLA stays at the helm, Mourinho could well have his work cut out in the Stadio Bernabeu.
Now watch Mascherano sit back and plug those tight-as-shit gaps even further when he gets on. Class.
