Rafael van der Vaart was hero and villain for Spurs as they ran out 4-1 winners in the end!
Another great week of Champions League football was concluded with four wins out of four for the English sides involved this year. Some of the wins were almost undeserved in all honesty, as managers try their best to keep all of their squad players for as the action keeps coming thick and fast! Arsenal and Chelsea play each other this weekend at Stamford Bridge, and changes were made with that game in mind, for both sides. The Gunners managed to maintain their 100% start to the tournament by beating Partizan Belgrade 3-1 in Serbia, while the Blues undeservedly managed to beat French Champions Marseille 2-0 at home.
Manchester United, without Rooney ofcourse, got the most fortuitous result of the week after they squeezed out a 1-0 in Spain having been outplayed for most of the match, while Tottenham Hotspurs hit FC Twente for four, in a match filled with Drama!
Favourites Barcelona again drew with bogie team Rubin Kazan of Russia.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS 4-1 FC TWENTE (Group A)
Definitely one of the games of the round. Spurs managed to record the first ever Champions League win in their history, but it was not as comfortbale for them as the scoreline suggests.
Star-man Rafael van der Vaart was back in the starting line up for the Lilywhites, as was captain Ledley King and Peter Crouch. Having been awarded an early penalty, Dutchman van der Vaart managed to miss, before turning into a hero again and putting Spurs 1-0 ahead just after half-time. In a sublime move, he spun and shot a free-kick delivery into the top corner. Unstoppable. Spurs were then handed a second penalty in the match, which this time as converted well by ROMAN PAVLYUCHENKO, before two moments of madness put the tie back in the balance. First, NACER CHADLI hit a smash-and-grab finish in for the visitors - Game on! Secondly, and just afterwards, van der Vaart was sent off for Spurs for a second bookable offence after a crazy game for the Dutchman. He deserved it, after his succession of fouls did him no favours at all.
Spurs didn’t have to wait long to put their nerves to rest and put the game to bed. They were almost immediately awarded another penalty after ages of debating between the referee and these new officials that stand behind the goal-line in all UEFA matches these days. One of them must have spotted something the referee didn’t, and with Twente outraged, Pavlyuchenko had the coolest head in the stadium to make it 3-1. Game, set and match.
Twente threatened in obvious ways through their man advantage, but Harry Hoodini’s defensive substitutes took care of that. Undeservedly, Spurs made it 4-1 on the break which wasn;t a true refelction on the game at all. Infact, it was very harsh on the Dutch team. A throughball for the amazing GARETH BALE saw him bury a lovely finish past the goalie who stood no chance. With the sort of refereeing on show, neither did FC Twente.
Man-Of-The-Match: GARETH BALE (Spurs)
Other Group A Result: Inter Milan 4-0 Werder Bremen
Spurs are currently 2nd in Group A after Day 2.

Yeah!! Great save by Almunia.........oh shucks, I forgot Almunia wasn't playing after his 'awful' performance against West Brom!!
Oh yeah, nothing to do with that disgraceful performance, it was because Almunia was 'injured', wasn't he Mr. Wenger?!!
Let's hope he has fully recovered from his 'injury' to take his rightful place as Arsenal's No.1 goalkeeper for the Chelsea game. Methinks not!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I aced my term paper, so ill play nice.
Nice post!
Yeah Vamos Chicharito! That goal was awesome.
I like zee's posts even though all the comments are either people hating on futbol or a random argument between zee and rdouble365.
