While on prima facie your little soliliquy sounds good, it is in fact crap.

Just because the general public can go out and buy shares of an oil company it does not mean that they are getting the bulk of the profits.

The executives including the board reap most of the profits as does the company itself. The company may then choose to pay out a small piece of the profits in dividends to the shareholders.

It is not like they get a billion dollars in profits and then divide it equally amongst the shareholders. People like you try to use simplistic comments like the one you made to try to get people to buy your crap.

If I owned 100 shares of BP at $100 a share and the stock rose to $120 a share, a 20% increase, my gross profit would only be $2,000, hardly a windfall and definitely not enough money to go buy a massive mansion out in Texas somewhere.

Given your lack of intelligence on finance, I doubt you own enough stock in anything to offset the added fuel costs that you will have to pay this year.

I rarely drive anywhere. I don't see the point. I can get anywhere I need to via bus, "L" train, Metra commuter train or taxi. If I have to go to like, rural Wisconsin or somewhere far, then yeah...I'll drive. Otherwise, I use my car about...once a week. And that's only because I need to either haul groceries or go somewhere that doesn't have reliable public transportation.

The supply of oil is just fine, in fact there are tankers just sailing around the ocean full of oil.

The high oil and gas prices are being caused by the speculators on Wall St driving up the prices for profit.

What the hell does she need a damn Tahoe for? My neighborhood is full of soccer moms whose husbands are dentists and doctors and they drive Tahoes, Escalades, Lexus LXs and so on, by themselves 90% of the time.

If this country would work on better public transportation systems, especially high speed rail, it would be less inclined to be at the mercy of the robber oil barons, who by the way are Republicans.

Japan and other countries have had high speed rail for decades and decades now, but America still does not have it to this day, pathetic.

i don't really feel like getting into an online debate, but i always feel like pointing this out when some knuckle head goes on about rich oil company ceo's. newsflash... the oil companies are publicly traded. that means any pea brained plebicite can by shares. all you need is a checking account. when the oil companies (or any company that's publicly traded) makes money, we all make money. so the ceo makes money and so do a bazillion other people investing in the oil companies. a good example... if you had bought BP right after the leak, you would be making a bunch of money instead of crying into your soy bean coffee, if such a thing even exists.

I don't know about this gasoline thing, to me it's just a big rip off all these oil tycoons are just taking advantage of the problems Libya is having...I heard somewhere that the U.S. imports only 2% of the oil from them, so why the hell are they blaming Libya? We shouldn't even need oil..This country could of been running on renewable resources like solar and win at least a decade ago. We are still reliant on oil because the rich powerful ceos control the government and they make sure we rely on oil. Greed will actually be the downfall and possible extinction of the human race.
