I finally finished watching all the DVR’d episodes from the past few weeks of Showtime’s hit new series “Shameless.” For those of you who don’t know, the series is based on the award-winning British series of the same name. The US version, which is set in Chicago’s tragic South Side, stars William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Justin Chatwin & a long list of highly talent young stars.
To sum it up in just one word: “Wow!” For those of you who didn’t bother keeping up this season, hit up Showtime on-demand to watch the entire season in one full swoop (watch the season premiere here)! I’m not kidding b/c the series has that unique addictive feature that all great things in life possess. You’ll watch three or four episodes without realizing it, so be careful.
I won’t go too deep into the drama b/c you can discover that for yourself, but the show successfully explores all the bullshit that a poor, WHITE family living in modern America suffers through in order to survive. Not to downplay any of the suffering, but I’m pretty sure this show would be very different if a (poor) black family in Chicago’s South Side took center stage.
As I said before, the cast is absolutely amazing. William H. Macy is seriously playing the role of a lifetime as the douche bag, alcoholic father of six, so definitely look for him to bag a lot of trophies next award season. As for the beautiful Emmy Rossum, she’s simply icing on the cake! I didn’t realize she was such a great actress, but I hope this role leads to huge projects in the future!
Congrats to the “Shameless” cast & crew for seriously killing it! I can’t wait for the second season!! OW!
