Are fans being driven away from Drop dead Diva because of producers’ decision to add reality star and diva Kim Kardashian to its cast in the upcoming fourth season?
Seems so, or so fears creator Josh Berman who has been the target of a particularly heated and contentious debate being fought among fans of the charming series. The backlash has surprised Berman since the show has featured several guest stars from the world of reality television in the past (you could even argue that series regular Margaret Cho was a “reality” star before she joined the show), but none have sparked anywhere near the amount of protest Kim’s upcoming appearance has.
Berman told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m disappointed when people say ‘I’m not watching,’ because of one person coming on to a show. Drop Dead Diva has a loyal core audience. But look, there aren’t big posters up promoting our new season. There’s no billboards. If someone like Kim Kardashian can get people talking and get people to tune into the show and get people to embrace the message of the show, I think that’s terrific.”
It remains to be seen if the show’s watchers will be driven away in droves as they are currently threatening, which may be counterproductive since the Lifetime series may not be a sure thing for renewal once season 4 is up.
