Conference finals tied up after strong weekend from Thunder and Celtics

Anyone that watched the 4th quarter of the Thunder-Spurs game could clearly see why Kevin Durant finished second in this season’s MVP voting. Durant’s 18 points in the 4th quarter along with a balanced offense guided Oklahoma City to defeat San Antonio 109-103 and tie the series in the west. The Spurs started off great but once the Thunder got their offense rolling it was difficult for San Antonio to keep up, especially when OKC has Serge Ibaka going perfect (11 for 11, 26pts) from the field. San Antonio did have a strong 3rd quarter to cut the lead all the way down to 2 points but from there it was all Durant. He ended up with a great stat line (36pts, 6reb, 8ast) but in the 4th he just told his team that he was going to take over and spoil any of the Spurs plans to comeback.

How can anyone not like this Celtics-Heat series? Rajon Rondo’s shot at the Heat (“complaining and crying to the referees in transition.”) alone is enough to entertain the casual NBA fan. Fueled by Rondo, the Celtics took down the Heat in overtime 93-91 and tied the series in the east. The game was ugly late with two stars fouling out (Pierce and James) but it was still entertaining. Early on it looked like the Celtics were going to dominate. Boston’s offense looked smooth and the defense looked in sync. The Heat made halftime adjustments or maybe they heard about Rondo’s comments but they came out like a different team that eventually took the lead in the 4th. From there it was back and forth until the end. Dwyane Wade had a good look to win game at the end of the overtime period but the basket didn’t fall and we have ourselves a best of three. Is there a game 7 looming?

Tonight’s game
Game 5: Oklahoma City at San Antonio Spurs
9:00ET (series tied at 2)
As the series heads back down to Texas the Spurs are looking get back to the form they had the first two games at home. Is home court going to be enough? The Thunder are firing on all cylinders right now so they’re looking to keep the momentum going because they are the team in this series that needs to win a game on the road. What looked like a historic run for Spurs has turned into a toss-up. Huge game 5 tonight.

since game 2 when he only took 3 shots in the 4th quarter, Durant has been on a mission
