It depends on your interruption of the 2nd amendment. We are discussing an amendment that was added to the constitution over 200 years ago. I believe the founding fathers gave citizens the right to bear arms to protect themselves from it's own government. It would make sense 200 years ago, but how would armed citizens do against the US military today?

I've noticed that conservatives are the lesser of two evils -to an extent-. I can tolerate their slight racism, anti-gay and religious crap as I find it all amusing. However, there's nothing amusing about liberals.

(NY, IL,CA) Cops are out of control in NY with racial profiling and the law that was put into place that basically overrides our constitution right for illegal search and seizure. A NY cop can stop and search you at will. The attempted big gulp soda ban is nice. The outdoor smoking ban in a park. NY is basically taking it upon themselves to dictate what you can and cannot put into your body.

I totally agree with your view point, spangly. I do not own a gun and would never bring a gun into my home, but I believe citizens have the right to bear arms. With any civilized society, there needs to be laws and regulations to protect the general population. There is no place for assault weapons in our society. Assault weapons are only good for killing large masses of people, which I don't believe the founding fathers had in mind when drafting the 2nd amendment.

1. The purpose of the second amendment is not just to allow people to bear arms to protect themselves.....it states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State". Meaning that we have the right to form a militia in order to protect the free state we have. No offense Spangly, but if there was a threat to our Free State (from external or internal sources) and I needed to join a militia in order to protect it I would not like my chances going up against armies with a couple of 9mm. The biggest mistake as a nation we make is we try to make the constitution fit our needs/beliefs instead of actually reading it and understanding it.

2. Gov't regulation fucks things up 90% of the time.

No even one death is the worst thing ever for the people connected to that person. I'm trying to make a case that assault style weapons should not be legally available. I don't want to strip away the 2nd amendment but I think we need to limit access to weapons designed for war. I am putting forth a moderate's view. A true liberal wants to ban all guns. But I am from a rural area and I know the value of hunting for food and I believe in self-protection where law enforcement is sparse.

So my statement that you quoted means that if this asshole had come in with common weapons, there would have still been death but not as much as when the AR-15 was added to the equation. If you think this is bad logic (5 deaths is better than 12) then maybe you are really a liberal at heart and have not yet realized it? Because from what we know about this case so far, if this guy had not been able to buy any guns legally then its possible that this whole massacre would have been avoided.

He flipped his lid and fairly easily obtained weapons of mass destruction that he turned on innocent people. So we as a society have to talk about this, even if it has been talked to death already.

I realize that even with background checks and waiting periods to get guns, this guy would have been able to obtain his weapons. There really is no way to screen out a serious psycho that has only recently turned insane. He could have used any gun to attack those people. If he had come in with only the Glocks and the shotgun, there would have been casualties for sure. Should I be able to own a tank, a RPG, etc? No. There have to be concessions made due to technological improvements.
