Steven Tyler Admits He “Hated” Doing “American Idol”

“It’s not my cup of tea. I loved it and hated it. It was a great job. I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life.”[THR]

64-year-old rocker Steven Tyler (really, he’s only 64?!?) told The Hollywood Reporter that the only reason he took the gig hosting the now hasbeen show called American Idol (sorry, Seacrest) was because of the big, fact paycheck and the fact that it let him escape the increasingly nasty fights between his Aerosmith bandmates. Tyler also had to grapple with working on the latest Aerosmith album, Music From Another Planet as well as the group’s Global Warming Tour which is currently making its way across the States.

It also probably didn’t help that a recent poll also revealed that 79% of loyal Idol watchers want Simon Cowell back. Tell that to Mariah Carey.

Mariah will give it a boost but the way Seacrest of further exposing himself as a no talent during the olympics it may not be enough

Oh, I didn't know they got Mariah Carey as a judge. Well that's promising. Just last week there was an NPR report on the judges quitting--and Jennifer Lopez wanting to continue her "thriving" singing career (lol).

Well, the ratings are still quite good, and they just got Mariah Carey as a judge, so the answer is no.

With everyone quitting on them, doesn't this signal that they need to wrap up the franchise?
