“Steve Jobs’ India connection goes back to 1973 when as a 18-year-old backpacker, he visited the country with Dan Kottke after both friends dropped out of Reed College in Portland, Oregon. The duo wanted to visit the ashram of Indian mystic, Neem Karoli Baba but when they got there, they found that the mystic had died a year earlier.”[THR]
I admit that I was as disappointed as everyone else when they announced that Ashton Kutcher of all people was going to be playing Steve Jobs in the first movie about the pioneering tech guru. But the first images of him on location in India have made their way to the net, thanks to the snapshot crazy fans in Delhi who caught the actor filming scenes where the real Jobs was supposed to have gone in search of spiritual enlightenment (he later famously credited LSD with freeing up his mind).
What do you think? Does this at all assuage your doubts about Kutcher playing the role? Or is this just another case of classic Hollywood tone-deaf casting?
