If you saw the trailer for Last Vegas and thought ‘This looks like The Hangover for the Viagra crowd, well, then guess what: you were a thousand percent right. That’s precisely what it is. And the movie knows it, and doesn’t try to pretend otherwise.
You might think that after three Hangover movies and Bridesmaids that the formula had been milked. Well, this is Hollywood we’re talking about, and until something outright BOMBS, they will napalm the hell out of it. Early indications are that that’s what’s about to happen here.
Four old “men” (played by Robert DeNiro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Kevin “I Thought He Was An Intellectual” Kline) head to Vegas to seek out the world’s greatest bachelor party . . . and to maybe recapture the vigor of their youth. You know already that something crazy happens when they get there and you also know how it will end. So, congrats: you’re psychic.
That being said, there are some genuinely funny moments – and DeNiro, Douglas, Kline and Freeman all remind us from time to time why we love them so. But this material is beneath them. It’s pure peanut gallery fluff spun into Metamucil-flavored cotton candy.
