“Smurfs: The Lost Village” is a reboot film unrelated to Sony’s previous effort that featured Katy Perry as Smurfette. Singer Demi Lovato scooped up the lead role as Smurfette in the reboot, which hits theaters this weekend. Ariel Winter, on the other hand, will do the voice for Smurf Lily, who is described as “a gentle girl Smurf” and 23-year-old singer Meghan Trainor lends her voice for Smurf Melody.
Here’s a brief plot summary for all you “Smurfs” fans:
In Smurf Village, the Smurfs live peacefully among themselves. Their leader is the wise and elderly, if a bit overprotective Papa Smurf (Mandy Patinkin). Most of the Smurfs include the klutsy and slow-witted Clumsy Smurf (Jack McBrayer), the intellegent and eccentric Brainy Smurf (Danny Pudi), the strong and gutsy Hefty Smurf (Joe Manganiello) and the beautiful Smurfette (Demi Lovato), who feels out of place in Smurf Village as the only girl. Smurfette was created by the villainous wizard Gargamel (Rainn Wilson) but was redeemed by Papa Smurf and became part of the village. Gargamel makes it his mission to capture the Smurfs, steal all of their essence, and become the most powerful wizard in the world. Source
